The Legacy of Duff’s Meats: A Three-Generation Family Tradition
Duff’s Meats has been a cornerstone of Hastings, Minnesota, since 1983, thanks to the hard work, vision, and dedication of the Doffing family. What started as one man’s dream has grown into a thriving, multigenerational business that remains deeply rooted in its community.
From Dream to Reality: Paul Doffing’s Vision
In the mid-1970s, Paul Doffing was working at Red Owl in Hastings when the store closed. He moved on to Penny’s Supermarkets, which later became Jerry’s Supermarkets. But after years of changes, Paul realized it was time to follow his dream of owning a grocery store or meat market. His search for the perfect location brought him back to his hometown of Hastings, where he discovered an opportunity to work at a small meat market next to the Tom Thumb store in 1981. With hopes of one day owning the business, Paul began laying the foundation for what would become Duff’s Meats.
By September 1983, Paul’s dream became a reality. He purchased the business and renamed it Duff’s Superette & Duff’s Meats. With the support of his family and friends, Paul built a reputation for quality and community care. Eight years later, he decided to focus solely on the meat market, relocating to a larger space and rebranding as Duff’s Meats & Deli.
The Second Generation Takes the Lead
After decades of hard work, Paul retired in August 2006, passing the torch to his son, Tim Doffing, who had been by his side since 1981. Tim embraced the opportunity to carry on the family legacy, reopening the business in a larger location under the name Duff’s Meats 2. The "2" reflects the second generation’s leadership, as well as Tim’s vision for growth and innovation. With fresh ideas and a commitment to quality, Tim has served the Hastings area ever since, keeping Duff’s Meats at the heart of the community.
A Family Legacy Continues
The Doffing family’s dedication spans three generations. Tim’s son, Matt, joined the team in 1995, solidifying Duff’s Meats as a family affair. In 2013, Tim welcomed his cousin Colin to the team, creating another tie to the business’s roots. Colin’s father, Phil, had worked for Paul in the 1990s, bringing the Doffing family’s involvement full circle.
In October 2020, Colin and Phil purchased the meat market, ensuring the Doffing legacy would endure for years to come. With deep ties to Hastings and an unwavering commitment to their customers, Colin and Phil are proud to continue serving the community through Duff’s Meats 2.
